Kodak Playsport - A small , portable and rugged HD video camcorder

19. June 2010 by TechFren Staff 0 Comments

The 5.1 ounce Kodak Playsport Video Camera is a unique 3 metre deep water resistant camera. With this quality and its rugged built, the camera stands out among others in its like. The size of the camera too is not big and bulky and small enough to fit in the pocket!

The new hot selling Kodak camera comes in three attractive colours: Abyss which is Black, Wave Crash which stands for Blue and Adrenaline Rush which means Purple. Its 2.0 inch LCD display is bright and clear. It makes a strong grip when held in hand. The texture and the body give out a tough and a compact look at the same time.

Features and Specifications

Kodak Playsport travel HD camcorder

The Kodak Playsport Video Camera captures the 1080p HD video at 30 frames per second. Viewing becomes all the more convenient with the LCD Glare Shield and electronic image stabilisation of the camera. The still photographs are taken by the 5 mega pixel lens with 16:9 aspect ratio.

The best feature of the camera is its compatibility with low lighting conditions. Its performance in low light is brilliant. The camera comes with an HDMI cable output convenient for enlarged viewing and the USB cable for image and video storage on to your PC. It also comes with Arcsoft Media Impressions Software to alter and upload the pictures clicked on to the World Wide Web.

The HD camera is capable of being controlled with a remote. The internal memory is 128 MB and the external memory can be expanded up to 32 GB. For this purpose SD/SDHC Card Slot has been given in the camcorder.

The camera settings have varied options to choose from like: face detection, microphone gain, brightness and contrast, date and time settings, sounds controls etc. The videos shot by the camera are saved as .mov. The external Microphone jack facility is unique to the camcorder’s other features.

Performance

The Kodak Playsport camcorder comes with Li-Ion rechargeable battery that doesn’t fare well in its performance. Giving about 90 minutes of shooting, the users find it terrible to be shot continuously without charging. The video shooting and still photo performance is quite good and the outcomes are pleasure to view in its clear LCD screen.

The auto focus lets the picture be sharp. If zoomed too much into the object being shot, the picture quality dips down hugely. The camera is shock resistant giving making it tough and weather proof. The camera is seen to be a great performer for stills but the video at times becomes shaky giving an impression of a badly shot video even in the best of handling.

The verdict!

The Kodak Playsport video camera proves to be a great friend if you love adventure and travelling. The tough water proof camcorder gives out an excellent still picture quality with a compact design making it most convenient to carry outdoors.
